Lesson 2 – Young Mans Dream (video)
Welcome to the second ESLpodTV lesson which today is for higher level students. There is some intensive listening practice brought to you courtesy of the Prelinger Movie Archives as I am using one of their public domain movies as the main part of this lesson. This will be part one in what I hope will be an eight part series. The movie was made in 1952 and is called Young Man’s Dream (Fancy). The story is a comedy set around the adventures of a young woman – Judy who wants to date her brother’s best friend. The film was a showcase and advertisement for the new electrical appliances of the day in the USA and is interesting because you can see the life style and values of that time.
A little of the language used – especially by the teenage Judy – is different to present day English and I have highlighted this with modern day expressions in the video and transcript. Most English used though is the same as today and provides good listening practice. ( せりふの訳はそのページのURLをRikai.comへ)
